Thomas Reyburn, O.D.
Dr. Reyburn earned a Bachelor's Degree in Science with a Minor in Elementary Education from Central Michigan University where he completed his undergraduate education. Dr. Reyburn worked for the Youth Ministry Program at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana and was also a teacher at Grand Rapids Public Schools after graduation. Dr. Reyburn was accepted at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. After graduation, he returned to Ada, Michigan with his bride, Sherry, and founded Ada Vision.
Dr. Reyburn was a Clinical Staff Doctor at the Michigan College of Optometry for 12 years. He developed two vision clinics at the Ionia Correctional Facility where he worked as clinical staff director. He also served as the President of the West Michigan Optometric Association from 1980 to 1983. He was invited and served on the National Board of Examiners for Optometry from 1998 to 2010 as a Senior Board Examiner and Assistant Chief Examiner.
In 2003 Dr. Reyburn was pivotal in developing the vision clinic at Mel Trotter Heartside Ministries in downtown Grand Rapids. He negotiated with frame companies, lens suppliers and optical equipment manufacturers to donate prescription eyewear at no cost in order to provide vision care to the the homeless and underserved. Dr. Reyburn has volunteered his services at Mel Trotter Vision Clinic for 20 years. Mel Trotter Clinic has continued to grow and recently completed expansion and renovations.
Dr. Reyburn has been a guest lecturer at Grand Valley State University in vision neurology and neuroanatomy, and has also been invited to speak at various sports vision clinics.
Over the years, Dr. Reyburn has developed five patents, two involving the fitting of Toric contact lenses and has also obtained the Toric Angle trademark.
