Thomas Reyburn, O.D.
After earning a Bachelor's Degree in Science with a Minor in Elementary Education from Central Michigan University in 1971, Dr. Thomas Reyburn was a Staff Member for the Youth Ministry Program at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana from 1971 to 1972 and a teacher at Grand Rapids Public Schools from 1972 to 1973. After the school year ended he entered Professional School at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. Upon graduating in June of 1977 he returned to Ada, Michigan with his bride and founded Ada Vision that September.
While growing his practice Dr. Reyburn was a Clinical Staff Doctor at the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University from 1978 to 1990. And he developed two vision clinics at the Ionia Correctional Facility where he worked as clinical staff for Michigan College of Optometry from 1978 to 1990. He also served as the President of West Michigan Optometric Association from 1980 to 1983. He was asked to serve on the National Board of Examiners in Optometry from 1998 to 2010 were he served as a Senior Board Examiner, one year was spent as an Assistant Chief Examiner.
In 2003 Dr. Reyburn was asked to develop a vision clinic at Mel Trotter Ministries in Grand Rapids where he still volunteers. He negotiated with frame and lens manufacturers to provide free prescription eyewear to the homeless and with optical equipment suppliers to supply the exam equipment needed. On March 20, 2012 he was a guest lecturer at Grand Valley State University in vision neurology and neuro-anatomy, and a guest lecturer in sports vision in baseball.
As Ada Vision has grown and expanded Dr. Reyburn has developed five patents, two involving the fitting of toric contact lenses and are trademarked.
